One 2 One Personal Underwater Photographic Tuition
Martin offers personalised 1:1 tuition with flexable programmes tailored to meet an individual's needs. Martin adopts a modular approach enabling photographers to select areas of specific interest and for those who want to combine teaching with practice he offers an accompanied underwater photography session in an indoor swimming pool.
The modules are outlined below. It is not necessary to select the teach-in modules ahead of time. Many find it helpful to determine these areas of focus after the introductory photo clinic. A typical full day programme consists of the introductory clinic, several teach-ins and an indoor swimming pool session with review and Adobe CS3 Photoshop tuition (if required).

 |

|
Module One - Photo Clinic: This is a 60 to 90 minute session during which Martin reviews and critiques your own photographs to determine style, trends and specific areas for improvement. This session always provides direction for which teach-in sessions to select. |
 |
|
Module Two - Teach - ins: Each teach-in runs for 45 to 60 minutes depending on the needs of the individual. During a full one day program numerous topics can be accommodated. They are numerous but often include:
Underwater Photography for the beginner
The very basics: apertures and shutter speeds etc
How to use and get the best from your digital compact digital camera
Digital SLR camera familiarisation day
All models covered including Nikon D300, D200 and Canon 5D
Making the change to a Digital SLR
The Future - Which equipment is best for you?
The Mindset - Planning an Underwater Photo-Dive
Developing your own style
Close up and Macro with Flash
Wide angle and Flash
Composition
Lighting
Workflow and image management in Adobe CS3 Bridge
Photoshop CS3 Tips & Techniques
What next - Where is your uw photography going?
Getting your work published
|
 |
|
Module Three - Practical Swimming Pool Session: This provides the opportunity to put all the teaching and tips into practice in an accompanied photographic session with Martin by your side. The results are reviewed and critiqued. When booking a programme Martin will need to know what photographic equipment you intend to use. For those who do not possess their own, digital camera hire is available. |

Course Reviews Adam Waters attended a day with me in February. Here are his comments:.
Thank you for a great day yesterday. I cannot begin to tell you how informative and instructive I found your course..
My work takes me to many mentoring and one to one days. The whole day was professional and you have clearly put much thought and effort into the preparation of the classroom work. I was originally concerned that my level of knowledge and expertise in photography would fall woefully short of the minimum standard you expect of your “Students.” If this was the case then I was put completely at ease by your manner of teaching..
Thank you for your advice to bring as many of my images as I could (good and bad) so that you could see how I was thinking and working. It is clear that this shows you are tailoring your course to meet my requirements rather than having a set agenda that all must follow.
As you requested I had prepared a list of questions with regard to underwater photography. When we looked through the list over lunch (the hotel facilities and lunchtime menu were superb by the way) I was amazed by how many of my problems had already been covered..
I am a hands on type of learner and, although I had read your book- The Underwater Photographer, I found that actually using my camera under your guidance and being shown how to use the manual settings as well as why the “Auto” settings were less than adequate under water invaluable. By the way thank you very much for letting me use your different lenses to show me the ranges of fisheye and wide angle views. A photograph cannot prepare you for the vast angle range of a fisheye..
The pool session was all I had hoped it would be- even more so as the water was warm! It allowed me to put to use the morning session and for you to correct some of my habits..
In all, Martin, the day was packed with information and helpful advice and I can see that you would have tailored your tuition to fit whether I had been half as experienced as I was or if I was far more advanced.
Once again thank you for a fantastic day.
Yours sincerely,
Adam Waters.
